Customers may inquire about the discontinuation of the Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty. The new 2010 5-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is market-driven and, in many ways, provides customers with additional coverage.
With the introduction of new 2010 model year vehicles, customers in the U.S. market will be positioned to take advantage of our new Powertrain Limited Warranty Coverage. Different than Lifetime, the new 5-year/100,000 mile warranty is a “no hassle” solution and will offer the owner superior options that were previously excluded from Lifetime. Benefits of the new warranty include subsequent owner coverage transfer at no cost, towing, and elimination of the 5-year powertrain inspection requirement. In addition, SRT vehicles, Dodge Viper, Ram 2500 and 3500 diesel pickups, and other special purpose type vehicles (police, postal, daily rental and government fleet vehicles) enjoy this coverage.

We responded to the voice of our customers and modified our coverage to be competitive with those automakers perceived to have the best warranties in the business. Customer feedback revealed that the existing 3/36 Basic / Lifetime powertrain combination was the least preferred of the top four competitive packages. The most appealing was Hyundai’s 5/60 Basic and 10/100 non-transferable powertrain followed by GM’s 3/36 Basic with 5/100 transferable powertrain. We also learned that these coverages were perceived as a greater value and have the ability to enhance consumer confidence.
This change is representative of Chrysler’s commitment to quality and the confidence and consideration we have for our customers. It is indicative of the need we have to be closer to our customer and ties in nicely with the “We Build Value” mindset.
We anticipate the change will promote a greater value to the customer and the benefits realized will increase loyalty to the brands. As always, we rely on you, our dealership personnel, to promote the product and communicate the merits of the program to the customer. At the end of the day it’s all about showing why and how we’re better!
